Public media was created as an antidote to the “vast wasteland” of commercial media in the 1960s. The LBJ Administration, as part of its Great Society programs, created the CPB to provide Americans with public service in the form of arts, performances, science, documentaries, and news on television and radio. Now, that vision is being challenged by an administration that wants to zero out funding for public media. What does this mean for the future of journalism? What does the future hold for stations like Spokane Public Radio?
