Each week we will highlight a Rotary member and tell their story, so you can connect their face to their name and make a connection with them!
This Rotarian joined Rotary after making their first international service trip in 2000. Fueled by this Rotary Service trip they knew that Rotary was something they wanted to do more of — to help people tell their stories, to find the narrative in what Rotary is doing and come back and share it.
During their time as Club President, they learned the importance of taking care of members. Striving to put their full-on energy into Rotary, they become District Governor but had to step away from all endeavors when diagnosed with cancer. Returning to Rotary after almost eight rounds of chemo and 21 rounds of radiation.
In March of 2020, a Rotary Foundation trustee at the time, this Rotarian was fresh off a monthlong Rotary trip, which started in India for its Rotary centennial, continued to Nepal to visit a project started by a Rotary Peace Fellow, and concluded in New Zealand for the South Pacific presidents-elect training seminar when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the world.
They watched with pride and amazement as Rotary members quickly applied for disaster response grants from The Rotary Foundation to fund service projects. But they wanted to do more so they pitched the idea of a telethon.
The idea came together over a matter of weeks and more than 65,000 people tuned in to the event which raised more than $525,000 for the Rotary Foundation.
By now I’m sure you’ve figured out that this Rotarian is one who helps guide us all…
