9/18/25 Rotary Off the Cuff: Bridget Perry & Paul Viren

Member pictureMember picture

What language (besides English) do you wish you could speak fluently?

Bridget: Spanish

Paul: Being from Sweden – Swedish

What’s your favorite local restaurant?

Paul: Well, we’re going to Clinkerdagger tonight for dinner, so I think I’ll make Clinkerdagger tonight’s favorite.

Bridget: Wild Sage

What was your first volunteer experience?

Bridget: Oh my goodness, I was packing onions for Northwest Harvest, I believe. I started very young.

Paul: The one that came to my mind was hosting Family Promise families in our church back 20-plus years ago, when they were still a fledgling organization, and being a host for those families during evenings when we were hosting them in our church.

What’s one thing people always compliment you on?

Paul: I don’t know if there is one. I would say the good taste to have in my wife, Beth. [A collective “ahhh” from the audience!]

Bridget: I have an insatiable memory for remembering names of individuals.

How many years have you been a Club 21 member, and if you were talking to someone who doesn’t know anything about Rotary, what would you want them to know?

Bridget: I joined the club in 2018. I would say that Rotary is a compilation of like-minded professionals that get together and, instead of writing individual checks to organizations, we collectively use our expertise and mindset to write big checks to help overseas and in our community. [Julie adds, to be fair, you were President of your Club on the westside. How long have you been in Rotary?] So, I’m 51 and full of fun! That’s my statement this year. I was a Rotarian at 25 years old. We started a Club in Magnolia, WA, and I was a charter member of that Club, and I was President at 39 years old. My goal was to be President before I turned 40. [applause!]

Paul: Murray Huppin got me into the Club 21 years ago and is still a good friend of ours today. I would say the favorite thing about Rotary that I would tell people is (this is from Mark Barnes, I stole this from Mark) Mark always told his friends, and I think this is very true, it’s the best hour and a half of the week.
