"F is for Fresh Start"

Welcome to 2022! The first of every new year is a time for both individuals and organizations to review the past year, reflect, and then get started on a “fresh” start to a new year. Part of the “fresh” start is to reflect not only what went right and wrong in the previous year but “why” it went right or wrong.

I remember listening to Tom Peters, an author who wrote “In Search of Excellence,” describe the 3 elements of every successful business or organization:

  1. Integrity – A culture of striving to always do what is right.
  2. Adaptation / Innovation – A willingness to adapt to change, open to new ideas and directions.
  3. Resiliency – The ability to recover from adversity. Toughness.
As I reflect back on how our Rotary Club has handled the adversity of the pandemic, I’m proud that our club has the “Integrity” and culture of the Rotary Four-Way Test as our foundation for who we are and how we act in the face of adversity. I’m also proud of the way we’ve “Adapted” to change and used the “Innovation” of Zoom and hybrid meetings to continue with our fellowship as a club and to continue the great work of Rotary Club #21 and RCS. And lastly, I’m proud of the “Resiliency” our club has shown during these tough times. Every person and organization gets knocked down from time to time, but true success in life and business comes from the toughness and “Resiliency” of getting back up and staying in the game.

So as we get a “fresh” start of meeting again in person this month, let’s remember these three elements of success and why Rotary Club #21 continues to be a successful organization.  And let’s all strive to make 2022 our best year yet!

Truly honored,
