Note from
President Weir

F is for Field
One of the great joys of spring is watching the kids start to play on the local ball fields and playgrounds. To run around with your friends and play games is truly part of the magic of childhood.
As baseball season starts, I always think about one of my favorite movies, “Field of Dreams.”  We all know the famous line, “If you build it, he will come.” The voice in the movie is referring to building a baseball field, but even a baseball field needs water (as well as the players on the field). This is where the voice of Rotary comes into play!
Last December, our assistant district governor, Kristin Thompson, took a delegation of Rotarians and non-Rotary members to the Dominican Republic to see how water, baseball, and fellowship combined to make lives better for the people of Fondo Negro. This Thursday you’ll get to hear how she became involved in this mission and more importantly how she and other Rotarians' tireless and selfless work has made an immediate and lasting change for the kids and families of Fond Negro. Our own Past President Gary Stokes was a part of this delegation and he and Kristin will tell their story and be happy to “field” all of your questions about this great Rotary project!
And speaking of a baseball “field,” mark your calendar for another fun Rotary Membership Engagement event! We’ve reserved a section of seating at the Spokane Indians Baseball for Friday, July 22nd for Rotary Night at the ballpark! This will be a fun family event! More details will be shared as we get closer to summer.

Come and hear this great story of water, baseball, hope, and Rotary in action! See you back downtown at the Spokane Club on Thursday.
Truly honored,
