11/20/25 Rotary Off the Cuff: Catherine Brazil & Chuck Clegern

What’s your favorite Thanksgiving food?
Catherine: Oh, by far the turkey. I love barbecuing turkeys.
Chuck: Cranberries and sweet potatoes.

Would you rather watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade or NFL games on Thanksgiving?
Chuck: I’m probably partial to football.
Catherine: I’d rather watch the Detroit Lions or the Dog Show.

What’s your favorite Thanksgiving Day tradition?
Catherine: We love to go to the lake (Coeur d’Alene) and do Thanksgiving. Just being out in nature and seeing everything. And if the snow falls, that’s even better.
Chuck: Together with family and inviting people that are strangers to come and expanding the table.

What’s one thing you are thankful for this year?
Chuck: Being healthy.
Catherine: I’m really thankful for this community and all the friends that we have in this room and how we all know each other some way, somehow, in Spokane.

How many years have you been a Rotary member and what inspired you to join?
Catherine: I think I’ve been a Rotarian for about 5 years now (editor’s note: it’s actually 7 years). My grandfather once was a Rotarian and so that’s what started me. But Chud Wendle was the one that drug me in here.
Chuck: 17 years total: 14 in Seattle and 3 here. What inspired me to rejoin was I just wanted to connect with the community here in Spokane, and meeting people like you and Dave Troyke. It’s been great. He’s pulling me into a lot of things.
Youth Exchange

Theo, our incoming exchange student from Sweden, arrives on August 17 and will be with us until around the end of June 2016.  We have a first host family, but need a second host family in the Ferris High School catchment area.  The second host family would host from the end of January to June 2026.  If your family is interested in hosting or knows of someone who may be willing to host, please contact Jim Johnson at 509-991-6611 kjrjjj@comcast.net.
