How many of you remember this? If you do, then you were there on
March 12, 2020, the last in-person meeting of Rotary 21.
President Paul at the podium, and on the stage - a table and chairs for our guests. This was the annual visit from the voices of Gonzaga Basketball. It was one of our more well-attended meetings – per usual.
March Madness and Spring Break were both around the corner. And confidence was high that this could be THE year for the Zags.
And then – COVID hit…and that was the last time we all were in the same place.
After a several-week hiatus, we joined the world in becoming part of the millions who used Zoom as a noun instead of a verb. Our Rotary 21 family may have been separated by proximity and pandemic, but we still found ways to get together – either electronically (often) or in-person (carefully, infrequently, and masked.)
Thanks to President Paul’s leadership and a lot of work by Jenna and Diana Picone (filling in for Jenna and Willow,) and the Board – we were able to settle into a reliable and workable plan that has continued to serve us well.
Now, as vaccines are given, individuals are becoming small groups (or Pockets of Fellowship,) and large(er) groups are starting to become more likely – we’ve been trying to figure out what’s next for us.
As more people become protected, and things slowly return to normal – there are signs that our Rotary normal may also return. How soon and in what form that may be is still a mystery. But one year later, Rotary 21 is still going, still growing, and still working to make our Community of Rotary a better place.
“See” you on Thursday…
