F is for Fortitude:
(Noun meaning courage in pain or adversity)

Dear Fellow Club #21 Rotarians,

Firstly I want to thank those Rotarians who took the time to complete the survey that the Board of Directors sent out regarding whether we should continue with hybrid meetings or return to zoom-only meetings. Given the fluid situation with the increase in the Delta variant of Covid-19 in our community, our executive committee and board had to make some hard choices and your input is greatly appreciated.

The executive committee and board reviewed the survey data responses, along with input submitted from club members. We also reviewed the local health guidelines and discussed what other large clubs and local organizations in our community are doing. The health and safety of our employees was a big consideration, as was seeking the guidance of Rotary International who, per the RI website state:

“Rotary International recommends that districts and Rotary and Rotaract clubs meet virtually, cancel, or postpone meetings. Closely examine your personal circumstances, including any health issues, when you consider travel and participation in events.”

Lastly, we also had to consider the financial impact of declining in-person attendance, given the current mask mandate, and all the work and expenses required by Jenna and the Spokane Club to have our in-person meetings for only a handful of people.

Therefore, after all the due diligence and consideration of options, your Board of Directors has voted to suspend in-person meetings and return to zoom-only meetings until further notice.

We understand some members will be disappointed, as am I. However, we feel that a return to Zoom is what is safest for the health of our club members, and is the fiscally responsible choice at this time as well. On a positive note, I have seen data showing the Delta variant of Covid-19 peaking and falling in other parts of the country and I continue to have faith that our return to Zoom will only be for a short period of time.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me, any board member, or the Rotary Office.

Again, I am deeply appreciative of your membership and I know together we will weather this wave, because “F” is for fortitude, and every Rotarian I know has courage in the face of adversity!
