My name is Xuan Nhi Nguyen. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for your continued
support of my medical education. Now a third-year medical student, I can confidently say that the
journey has been both rewarding and challenging, helping me grow immensely as a future
physician.
Having gone through the struggle of being a first-generation college student and pursuing
medicine without much guidance, I empathize with other low-income students who are also
aspiring physicians. The desire to provide support for these students lead me to start Align
Medical Mentoring with the mission to reduce barriers to accessing medical education and
empower aspiring medical professionals through collaborative partnerships. Throughout the past
year, my team at Align Meddical Mentoring supported over 60 students through the complexities of the
medical school application process. Sharing my own experiences has also been incredibly fulfilling
and I have witnessed firsthand the importance of support and guidance for those from
underrepresented backgrounds.
As I progress through my third year at ESFCOM, I am excited to share that I will be working on a
project aimed at better understanding the adversities of housing-insecure individuals who also
face mental health challenges. Through this project, I hope to shed light on the unique difficulties
this population encounters and contribute to developing more effective interventions.
