Rotary 21 Board has approved a motion which requires membership approval, the membership will be asked to vote on this motion at the June 6th Rotary meeting.

Dear Fellow Rotarian,

As was published in the Monday newsletter and announced from the podium yesterday, the Rotary 21 Board has approved a motion which requires membership approval; to raise annual membership dues by $90.00.  This might more accurately be described as cost restructuring as many Rotarians will see an actual cost reduction for their Rotary involvement. The membership will be asked to vote on this motion at the June 6th Rotary meeting.

The proposed increase is a result of several factors including normal inflationary cost increases for the Spokane Club, but more importantly, a declining number of members attending and purchasing lunches.  At current levels the number of lunches purchased are not sufficient to cover the venue costs and continuing to simply increase the lunch cost will predictably lead to fewer members eating and will ultimately incur more price increases. The Rotary Thursday meeting is the core for strong membership and engagement; therefore, the Board determined it would be best if the cost of the venue was separated from the cost of the lunch.  This means every member will now contribute to the weekly venue costs.

Please know that we have carefully investigated other lunch venues around downtown and we find the Spokane Club offering to be superior from a price and value perspective.

The breakdown is as follows:
  • Membership dues will increase by $90 to $475 annually which will offset the venue cost
  • Lunch for Rotary 21 members in good standing will decrease to $15.00
  • Lunch for guests and all others is $20.00
  • Beverage service only for Rotarians will remain at $2.00 (This option is not available for guests or visitors; they will pay the $20 lunch price to attend our meeting)

Please note that:
Only the dues increase requires a membership vote to approve.
Pricing from the Spokane Club will be locked in for three years and would begin July 1, 2019.
Even at the proposed $475 annual dues, our dues are low when compared to other large clubs in similar markets AND many Rotary Clubs are adding lunch fees or required lunch purchase as a part of dues.
Members who are regular weekly meeting attendees will see a net reduction in their annual costs of membership as a result of the decrease in lunch costs.

Your board believes this is a prudent and fiscally responsible approach to ensuring that Club 21 retains a premier venue for our mandatory weekly meetings and appreciates your vote of approval. To get the highest value from your Rotary 21 membership, please attend weekly or as often as you can to enjoy fellowship, stay current on club events and hear stimulating programs. Your membership is meaningful and valued.

Regards,

Your Club 21 Board of Directors
