Rotary Scholar 1st Recipient WSU Scholarship started by Bellevue Sunrise Rotary Britta Bunnel
I am writing to thank you for your generous contribution to my medical education. My name is Britta Bunnel and I am the recipient of the Rotary Scholarship from its inaugural year for WSU's Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. Thank you for contributing to my medical education for the last three years. Your generosity has impacted my life and has inspired me in a variety of ways.
I am beginning my fourth year of medical school and am set to graduate this upcoming May! I am thrilled to be finishing school and moving on towards my next step in this journey. I am confidently and excitedly pursuing primary care as a specialty. Throughout the ups and downs of medical school, it has been encouraging to know that I have a support team behind me, including many people who I may have never met but who believe in my dream to practice medicine.

This journey began out of a desire to serve people in my community holistically and to combine my passion for sciences with my love for the humanities. Medicine fits this dream, as it is both a physical practice as well as a crafted art. Through medical school, I am learning physiology and clinical facts as well as how to practice patient-centered care and how to advocate for unheard voices and health equity. These have perhaps been the most important lessons: how to care for patients by first and foremost recognizing their humanity.
Unsurprisingly, medical school has been an immense challenge. However, it has been a challenge that I would not change because of all that I have learned and all the ways I have grown. I am grateful that I have had this opportunity, and I know my degree and training will be used in profound ways for the rest of my career.
Thank you for contributing to my education and for continuing to encourage me on this journey as I pursue my dream and thank you for intentionally serving your own communities through the Rotary Club.

With deepest gratitude,

Britta Bunnel
