“F” is for Family
I enjoyed watching my girls and the speaker's daughter do the pledge of allegiance at our meeting last Thursday. It reminded me that “F” is for Family and that Rotary is all about family. I loved having my parents, wife, and nephew at my first meeting, and I LOVE razzing my brother, Kevin, on a regular basis at Rotary. Although I do owe him big time for always saving me a seat when I’ve come late to our meetings.
So it’s because “F” is for Family that I wish to give a big shout-out to our Foster Kidfest Committee this week! I sometimes take being part of a family for granted until I think what it must be like for kids without a permanent, loving family. That’s why our Foster Kidfest Committees' goal is to help foster kids find a “forever” family.
This past week the Foster Kidfest Committee had a wonderful outdoor stargazing event. What a special evening with 17 foster kids and families learning about the moon, planets, and stars.
A big shout-out goes to committee chairs Julie Kelsey, Shanna Cejka, and the entire Foster Kidfest Committee for organizing the event. And thank you to Joe Bruce & Mark Barnes for hauling their mega telescopes out so the kids could see and learn about the constellations that light up the night sky. And also a big thank you to the multiple Club #21 Rotarians who helped make this event a huge success!
I also feel like Rotary Club #21 is my family. There’s an old saying that the people that are there for you on your darkest nights are the ones worth spending your brightest days with. I couldn’t agree more! I've heard so many stories this past year of how our fellow Rotarians were there for each other during the darkest moments of the pandemic. So thank you to those Rotarians that reached out and checked in with each other during the pandemic.
And if you still don’t see a fellow Rotarian at a meeting or active on Zoom, please do reach out to them and check in with them. Because that is what family does for each other. And “F” is for family, and Rotary Club #21 is indeed family!
