Honor Flight

Welcome Home Veterans

The club recently sent funding to Inland Northwest Honor Flight to fund 12 Veterans to attend the October 13-14 Honor Flight, which will have approximately 90 Veterans.  The Veterans Committee would like to invite club members to welcome home the Veterans returning on October 14th at the Spokane Airport main ticketing area.  The target arrival time is 7:30 pm. The flight is Allegiant #4912.  It is best to arrive a little early, as the area gets quite crowded.  The welcome home parade is one of the most meaningful parts of the trip, especially for our Vietnam vets.  This is the homecoming they did not get 50+ years ago.

Spokane County Wildfire Update

Thanks to so many generous Rotarians, Rotary Clubs, and community members, our Spokane County Wildfire Fund has received over $70k in donations. This includes donations from the Davis (CA) Sunrise Rotary Club, Downtown San Jose (CA) Rotary Club, Bellingham (WA) Sunrise Rotary Club, Poulsbo (WA) Rotary Club, and Nishinomiya Rotary Club (Japan). Our Club’s Fire Disaster Relief Task Force (FDRTF) has been diligently reviewing grant applications from organizations providing wildfire response support. Here’s an overview of these efforts.

Fundraiser Highlights

  • The Chinese Community, including several Rotarians from District 5030, hosted a fundraising event in Seattle on September 22nd, raising over $30k. All donations went directly to our Spokane County Wildfire Fund.

  • The Tri-Cities Rotaract Club organized a 5 K Fun Run on October 3rd and raised over $3k for our Spokane County Wildfire Fund.

FDRTF 5 Grant Applicants Approved

  • Spokane Helpers Network: Food

  • Fig Tree: Resource Directory

  • Heroes Homestead: Household, Food, Vocational

Fire Disaster Recovery - Call for Volunteers

Rotary's partner, Disaster Aid USA, is deploying volunteers to support the Spokane community impacted by wildfires.

Your time, skills, and compassion can make a real difference when it matters most. We're looking for volunteers to help sift ashes, sort debris, and perform general property clean-up.

To sign up, please email Julie Kelsey at julie@juliekelsey.com to be added to the volunteer list for future opportunities. We are only just beginning this important recovery work.

Together, we will Create Lasting Impact.

Happy Birthday to you!
