Cathy Spokas, Education Coordinator

Ditch That Thirsty Lawn for a Waterwise ‘Spokanescape’ yard!

Mar. 19, 2026 12:00 p.m.
Removing grass is one of the most water-conscious adjustments a homeowner can make to reduce their water usage and associated costs. A well-designed SpokaneScape will beautify your property, protect our natural resources and the environment, and will inevitably reduce yard maintenance. City of Spokane Water customers can earn up to a $500 credit towards their utility bill after removing lawn and replacing it with water-wise plants and mulch.

Brief Speaker Bio
Education Coordinator for the City Water Department, Cathy Spokas, makes numerous presentations all around the city of Spokane regarding yard conversions to native plants and rethinking how we irrigate.

Mar. 26, 2026 12:00 p.m.

LaDonna Beaumont, a self-described “late bloomer,” will share her personal story of adventure and aviation. She plans to include her views on living outside of your comfort zone, believing in yourself, and quieting the negative voice in your head. LaDonna got her Private Pilot certificate at age 49, and she will tell us why she believes seeking adventure is critical at every age, but especially as we get older.

Speaker Bio

LaDonna Beaumont is a 4th-generation Coeur d’Alene, Idaho Native. She is also a mom, Nonna, STCU Financial Advisor, and Podcast Host. She is a 20-year Coeur d’Alene Sunrise Rotarian where she is a two-time Past President and current Sergeant at Arms. She recently moved to Athol, Idaho, where she lives on a private airport with her brand-new husband Karl, and dog Poppy. A former leader in the House, he is now partway through hisfirst term in the Senate. Currently, he sits on the Ways & Means Committee and the Health & Long-term Care Committee, two very important to Spokane. His leadership skills have also been recognized, as he's been appointed to be the majority (D) floorleader. Still, Marcus acts very non-partisan and is widelyrespected.

Marcus worked with advocates and colleagues from both sides of theaisle to prime sponsor and pass legislation creating the WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. He also worked on the bipartisan transportation package that makes significant investments in the North Spokane Corridor, Central City Line, and U-District Bridge, which will expand employment opportunities in the Spokane region and reduce travel time by several million hours each year. He championed funding to expand oral health access to an additional 60,000 people, increasing dental visits by 150,000 annually.
